I saw this while waiting to photograph a baseball game yesterday afternoon at Iolani School.  Mind you, I had to wait about half and hour or so for the right elements to line up within the two windows on the construction perimeter safety fence.  A truck backed up, and one of the workers stepped out from the structure into the sunlight, and voila.  Image made.  This didn't make print today, so I'm sharing with you all here.  Enjoy!

I've been following your blog for a few years now and have enjoyed it alot.

If you have a moment (and an opinion), could I get your thoughts on a gear question. I'm currently using a 1D Mk II and love it, except for the older processor and limited quality ISO.

I am going to add a second body that I'll hang the 17-35L or 70-200 2.8 (sigma DX) from. At some point, it will become my primary I imagine. Also have a 300F4L that could/would go on either body.

From a style standpoint, I enjoy very much what you capture - sports, landscape, informal/observational - search for Sprayhawk Photography on facebook to get a feel if you like.

    I'm looking at a 7D, 5DII and a 6D.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

    Hey Byron!
I always appreciate your commentary on my blog! You have some great looking images on facebook! The solar eclipse is awesome!! I've yet to photograph one of those! You have a great knack for seeing things compositionally, as well! Of course, I always enjoy photographs of our canine friends also!

As far as the gear question/advice goes, after using a 1-series camera, honestly, I don't think you'd like to go any of the newer "prosumer" models. It just doesn't feel the same. Responsiveness, autofocus, and even the way it feels in your hands when you raise it up to take a photo--all of these factors are different in the newer models. That being said, if you do decide to choose between the models you mentioned above, I'd take the 5D just because it's full frame. A lot of people I see shooting sports nowadays are using the 7D, and I've tried it a few times, but it's just not for me. The GOOD thing about the 6d and 7d, though, is the crop factor of 1.6 gives you slightly more "reach" with your telephoto lenses. Keep in mind though, that "reach" isn't magnification, but rather just tighter into the frame because of the sensor size.

Another option would be to look for used 1Dmkiii or mkiv's. Since the newest 1dx came out, people have been dropping their mkiv's like flies.

Anyway, I hope this helps. This is just my opinion. I will say that the newer sensors that have come out are just absolutely amazing, especially in lower light situations. Ten years ago, I despised shooting at 1600 asa--now it's not even a factor even going up to 12,800! Good luck, and, again, thanks for always stopping by blog! Cheers!

Many thanks for the feedback and kind words. I hadn't thought too much about another 1D, but I do understand what you mean about the others not feeling the same. Part of what I do like about my 1DMkII is its substance. It does get heavy to carry, but it is solid.

The compromise I'm fighting is frame size. I'd really like full frame / don't care too much for 1.6 factor. I wish that there was a 1.3 factor like my 1DMkII on the market...

    Mahalo!
